Do I need experience to attend?

No. All public yoga classes are beginner-friendly. All levels and bodies welcome.

4

What should I bring to class?

Yoga mats, blocks, bolsters and straps are all provided by The Gathering Place Community Center.

I encourage you to wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle.

4

How accessible are the free yoga classes?

The Practice
This is a slower-paced, all-level class focused on breathwork, rest, and gentle movement. Postures are typically held for 1–3 minutes, with space for modifications, adaptations, or alternative poses throughout class. Participants are encouraged to move at their own pace, including resting at any time or remaining lying down for the full session if needed.

This class may be supportive for people with low energy, chronic illness, pain, disability, burnout, or stress. Please note that the practice is primarily floor-based and includes seated and reclined postures.

You can contact me directly if you have any other questions about accessibility needs.

The Space
Classes take place at The Gathering Place Community Centre, an inclusive and accessibility-focused space serving diverse communities, including seniors, disabled people, LGBTQIA2S+ community members, low-income residents, youth, and people experiencing houselessness.

The building includes:

  • elevator access to the second floor

  • wheelchair-accessible and gender-inclusive washrooms

  • seating and rest areas throughout the facility

  • Fluorescent lighting is reduced or turned off when natural light allows.

Getting There
The Gathering Place is approximately a 5–7 minute walk (400–500 metres) from Yaletown–Roundhouse SkyTrain Station.

What is "decolonized yoga"?

Decolonized yoga is an approach that aims to move away from purely Western, commercial, and performance-focused interpretations of yoga. It places less emphasis on physical postures alone and instead includes breathwork, meditation, and broader aspects of traditional yoga practice.

It acknowledges yoga’s South Asian roots and encourages a shift toward accessibility, self-awareness, and community care rather than individualism, competition, or perfection.

4

What does “trauma-informed yoga” mean in your classes?

Trauma informed yoga is a gentle approached to yoga that acknowledges that people who have experienced trauma may need extra support in reconnecting with their bodies  and nervous systems
