Where are classes held in Vancouver

Free yoga classes happen every week at The Gathering Place Community Centre located at 609 Helmcken St, Vancouver, BC. Classes are on the second floor in the fitness room, next to the billiards room.

Private classes are offered online or in my Port Coquitlam studio.

3

Do I need experience to attend?

No. All public yoga classes are beginner-friendly. All levels and bodies welcome.

4

What should I bring to class?

Yoga mats, blocks, bolsters and straps are all provided by The Gathering Place Community Center.

I encourage you to wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle.

5

How accessible are the free yoga classes?

The Practice
This is a slower-paced, all-level class focused on breathwork, rest, and gentle movement. Postures are typically held for 1–3 minutes, with space for modifications, adaptations, or alternative poses throughout class. Participants are encouraged to move at their own pace, including resting at any time or remaining lying down for the full session if needed.

This class may be supportive for people with low energy, chronic illness, pain, disability, burnout, or stress. Please note that the practice is primarily floor-based and includes seated and reclined postures.

You can contact me directly if you have any other questions about accessibility needs.

The Space
Classes take place at The Gathering Place Community Centre, an inclusive and accessibility-focused space serving diverse communities, including seniors, disabled people, LGBTQIA2S+ community members, low-income residents, youth, and people experiencing houselessness.

The building includes:

  • elevator access to the second floor

  • wheelchair-accessible and gender-inclusive washrooms

  • seating and rest areas throughout the facility

  • Fluorescent lighting is reduced or turned off when natural light allows.

Getting There
The Gathering Place is approximately a 5–7 minute walk (400–500 metres) from Yaletown–Roundhouse SkyTrain Station.

6

What is "decolonized yoga"?

Decolonized yoga is an approach that aims to move away from purely Western, commercial, and performance-focused interpretations of yoga. It places less emphasis on physical postures alone and instead includes breathwork, meditation, and broader aspects of traditional yoga practice.

It acknowledges yoga’s South Asian roots and encourages a shift toward accessibility, self-awareness, and community care rather than individualism, competition, or perfection.

7

What does “trauma-informed yoga” mean in your classes?

Trauma informed yoga is a gentle approached to yoga that acknowledges that people who have experienced trauma may need extra support in reconnecting with their bodies  and nervous systems. Everything in the class is invitational and options and your agency is always centered.

8

Do I need to book in advance?

Not for public classes - they are drop-in. However, if you register in advance, you will receive a notification if any changes or cancellations happen to that class. If you are not registered you will not receive any notifications.

Questions about Private Yoga Classes:

9

Do you offer private sessions or mentorship?

Yes, I offer one-on-one private yoga classes for students looking for a private yoga instructor. Some people feel pressured to perform in public yoga classes; this can make it hard to connect with yourself. Private yoga lessons are shaped around your pace, your capacity, and what is actually present. We may work with tools such as gentle movement, breathwork, meditation, or have a conversation, always with an emphasis on integration into daily life. Learn more about personal yoga classes here.

10

Do you have a studio?

Yes, I have a small studio is located in Port Coquitlam, BC. It is a beautiful space with large floor to ceiling windows looking into the forest. The space can host 2-3 students max indoors and up to 6 on the patio.

11

What do I need to bring with me to class?

I have yoga mats, blocks, blankets, bolsters, and straps available for students to use.

I encourage you to wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle.

Can I book a class for a friend?

Classes cannot be paid for someone else in advance, however, gift cards are available and can be used by the recipient at the time of booking.

Questions about Group Yoga Classes:

14

How far in advance should we book a private group yoga class? What is the cancellation policy?

Depending on what you are looking for, it is best to try to book group bookings 1-2 months in advance, as this allows me to move my schedule around if necessary. For larger retreats I recommend booking 6+ months in advance.

A booking retainer of 50% is is required at the time of booking, and the balance is due within 14 days of your event. Changes to events must be submitted no less than 48 hours in advance. Cancellations require 48 hours notice or the full balance is due.

15

Do you travel to offices, retreats, conferences, or events?

Yes, both local and international travel is possible. There is a travel fee for bookings outside of the Tri-cities area, and a per diem for events that require overnight stays.

16

What is the minimum and maximum group size?

Group bookings can be a minimum of 3 participants and I have worked with groups that have 100+ participants. The group size depends on how much space you have and whether the event is in person or online.

17

How much space do I need to host a group yoga class?

I recommend you allot between 25-30 square feet per participant. This allows enough room for a standard sized yoga mat, full arm extension, and safe transitions between postures. If you are only hosting a meditation or yoga nidra class where participants are not moving, you can get away with less. This means a group of 10 people will need a miniumum of 250 - 300 square feet of open space.

18

Can we book a one-time session or recurring classes?

Yes. I am available for one time bookings, or I can support your organization with an ongoing wellness program.

19

Is yoga equipment provided?

20

Yes I rent out yoga mats, blocks and bolsters without requiring you to book with me.

Yoga Mats - $2.50/ea (40 available)

Blocks - $1.50/pair (7 pairs available)
Bolsters - $3.50/ea (14 available, varying sizes & shapes)
Cotton Yoga Blankets $2.50/ea (6 available)

A refundable damage deposit of $200 is required. There is an additional charge for cleaning and delivery. Please contact me directly with your event information for a more accurate price quote.

21

Can sessions be themed or tailored to our event?

Definitely. I would love to hear more about your event. Some organizations prefer a focus on stress relief and relaxation, while others prefer a focus on team building and connection, and others yet prefer to support conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive strain injuries (RSIs), which are frequent among office workers.

To support you in maintaining an inclusive workspace, I do not offer spiritually focused teachings in organizational spaces unless specifically requested. I am happy to tailor teachings to meet the goals of your organization.

22

“What if some people in the group don’t want an intense workout?”

I do not offer any intense yoga workouts. I specialize in working with people who feel burnt out and exhausted, there for my focus is in offering grounded, trauma-informed practices that support sustainable engagement and connection with one's own body. Practitioners are encouraged to move at their own pace. I can offer modifications for people who desire more or less intensity. Practitioners can practice from a mat or chair.
