Safety and the Nervous System

Our nervous systems are one way that our brains communicate with our body to tell us when it is save to connect and when we need to survive. The autonomic nervous system is shaped and regulated by our interactions with others. It allows us to co-regulate and invite new possibilities OR it will increase our reactivity and reinforce habitual survival tactics. This internal surveillance system is referred to as neuroception. It takes information from our surroundings and converts that information to a biological response in the body leading to changes in our behaviors, emotions, and the stories we tell ourselves.
